Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy EASL guidelines aid risk stratification

Ms Nina Rodriguez and Dr Tatyana Kushner confirm that the 2023 EASL guidelines can help risk stratify patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.

EASL guideline ICP risk groups:

A – normal serum bile acids and liver enzymes

B – normal serum bile acids and elevated liver enzymes

C – elevated serum bile acids with or without elevated liver enzymes

Tatyana Kushner, MD, MSCE

Associate Professor, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Joint appointments in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Population Health Sciences,Weill Cornell Medicine, USA.

Tatyana Kushner has a clinical practice that encompasses the full spectrum of liver diseases, with a focus on providing care to women living with liver disease, including pregnancy-related liver conditions and reproductive health as it pertains to liver disease. Her research interests focus on delineating the influence of chronic liver disease (such as MASLD and viral hepatitis) on pregnancy outcomes, developing improved detection and management of liver diseases during pregnancy (such as cholestasis of pregnancy and other liver diseases in pregnancy), and improved understanding of the interaction of liver disease with pregnancy. Her work has been published in numerous gastroenterology and liver journals.
